Students at Thomas Deacon Academy (TDA) have been showing compassion, commitment, and courtesy by completing a community project in Central Park.
On Tuesday 23rd March, Year 7 students at the academy embarked on a litter pick in Central Park as part of their Character Curriculum.
The litter pick is the first of the community projects and aims to highlight the importance of looking after the environment and support the local community.
Kelly Joiner, Community Engagement Lead at Thomas Deacon Academy, said: “The TDA vision is to ensure that each student acquires the necessary knowledge, skills and character to make a positive contribution to society and thrive as a global citizen.
“As part of achieving this, we have developed the Character Curriculum which allows our students to take part in activities which have a positive impact on their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development, whilst also having a positive impact on the school and local community.
“We are thrilled to have put this into practise with our recent litter pick and achieve something productive to protect our environment and wildlife. Together, we look forward to further working with students, staff, parents and local businesses to create innovative solutions to local issues and develop opportunities to celebrate our wonderful community.”
Students at the academy, which is part of the Thomas Deacon Education Trust, collected a lot of litter and were pleased to have contributed to the project.
Year 7 student Weronika said, “Every little bit counts to help change the world”.
Another Year 7 student, Daniel said “I am taking part in the litter pick to help save the animals”.
